21 Lives Saved Last Night — But Our Fight Isn’t Over..

Last night, we did what felt impossible—21 horses are safe because of your incredible support. Twenty-one lives spared from the unimaginable. Twenty-one second chances at a future filled with hope and love.

Today howeer, our work continues, and its literally the end of the line for them.

How this works, because I always get a lot of questions. The family that owns the auction, ALSO owns the kill pen. They ship horses out multiple times a week to Mexico to be slaughterted. Horse traders and the general public send horses to the Kill Pen DAILY. When the family hosts the auction once a month, they use the auction to also buy horses that they then send to Mexico. It is a horrible intertwined web. This is where my brain is just at a loss. In order to stop the cycle, which ALL OF US so badly want to do, we need to change the narrative. HAVE TO change the narrative. We need to inspire people to sign up as monthly sponsors of rescues and sanctuaries. The more people do THAT the more intakes rescues and sanctuaries can do, which means less horses go into the pipeline.

SUPER IMPORTANT FOR TODAY:

We are still fundraising to secure the futures of:

  • Sofia: The thoroughbred with the badly hurt leg: $3156 left to raise

  • The Sticker Boys: $6624 left to raise

  • Elaina, the draft: $5000 - no funds yet

  • The draft with the broken leg : $1100 left to raise

All of these horses are still at risk of shipping this afternoon except Sophia. I was not going to let her sit here at the Kill Pen all weekend with a horribly infected leg which would have only gotten worse and could have compromised her life completely. I will be posting the photos of her leg before being doctored, cleaned off and wrapped on Patreon, our monthly subscription platform.

Time is running out, and we need your help to raise the remaining funds to save them. Each of these horses has a story, a soul, and a future that doesn’t have to end in tragedy. We’ll be sharing more updates throughout the day as we fight to bring them to safety.

Today we are also focusing on saving horses bought by the kill pen, horses who face shipping to slaughter if we can’t act in time. The heartbreak of seeing them standing in the pens, unaware of what’s coming, is something I’ll never get used to. These are healthy, beautiful horses who deserve so much more than the horrific fate that awaits them.

We will be walking the pens, going live, and doing everything we can today. But we can’t do this without you.

Additionally, a horse trader sold around 30 belgian draft work horses TO THE KILL PEN this morning. ALL of these horses will be tagged and chipped and shipped to slaughter if we dont step in and act. It is disgusting. It makes me sick. There is a part of me that wants to say fuck it and fundraise for all of them as one last massive fundraiser for the holidays. Get them homes for the holidays. The only way I could even attempt to do something like that would be if enough rescues and private homes reached out to pledge a home for them once they would be cleared by the vets etc. Its a thought. I am going to think on it over the next hour and when I get there to the sale barn see what my gut is telling me, although I can already feel what it is telling me. What are your thoughts?

Here’s how you can help:

We need donations to go towards their rescue and care. Every dollar counts and can mean the difference between life and death.

Share this email and our posts with your friends and family. Spreading the word can reach someone who is able to help.

Follow our updates on social media and join us when we go live to witness the reality we’re fighting against.

These horses don’t have much time left. This is it. Together, we can save them and show them they are not forgotten.

Thank you for standing with us, for believing in this mission, and for giving these horses a second chance!
