Going into today I am super hopeful that we are going to help and do so much good. My sister is with me this month, thank God, to help with taking photos, capturing videos and connecting with horses. Its so important to me to connect with them. The Sticker Boys who we are fundraising for are a good example of that. Yesterday when I initally was around them they were so incredibly standoffish. The one is VERY standoffish and has no problems with biting. He nailed one of the workers yesterday. He actually scares me. His friend on the other hand is kind. He is scared, but he is kind and wants to interact with people. I connected with him. I could tell that the kindness of giving him fresh grass that I pulled out from under the fence was a source of happiness for him. He would actually get right up next to me in the way that Sandwich does back home when I am going to throw his ball or give him belly rubs. I love that form of connection.
It is in these moments, in these connections that I SEE them. I do my best to try to show you those brief moments through posts, stories and reels. I want you to feel why it matters to give them the second chance I am begging for, for them.
That is the thing, this is it for them. This is it. I was told yesterday that my reels and videos sometimes have a tendency to come on too harsh or too much or too strong. I get that. Truthfully I dont know what else to do. It is my passion for helping them that goes into just showing what is happening in the most raw, emotional form. I KNOW the videos and stories of horses shipping is hard to watch but if we, if I dont show that, then how will people see the truth? How do we honor their lives?
We have saved 7 so far which is amazing. My hope is that today we raise the funds to help 20. It sounds insane BUT I also know the power of the ASIAB community and what we can accompplish when we work together. Its amazing and pretty dawn incredible! I cannot thank you all enough for being a part of this growing movement and this vision that is turning into something so real and beautiful for the them and the humans that are so invested in healing them and watching them thrive.
I also have Jaeden coming today who is an amazing videographer from Dallas. I have been having him come monthly to help document and to put together monthly videos which we have posted on our Youtube channel. He is SO talented and I am so thankful for him. This is so important to me to have him there because documenting, showing, speaking on behalf of them, is another form of creating change. I just want you to see how powerful what we are doing is--- Jaeden had NEVER been to an auction or a Kill Pen before. He had no idea that all of THIS happened to horses. When he showed up the first time he was given a job to video the horses and to tell a story. By the end of the weekend he had cried, he had connected and he was commited to helping. He has even brought his dad to the auction to show him what is going on to get him behind this amazing movement to help bring chance and give them a second chance. Isnt that amazing!?
Last night we got the 7 loaded out and taken to the RST property here in Texas which is 25/30 minutes away. The vet was on call there waiting and immedialy got Charlie hooked up to an IV and started on a nebulizer which is a contraption that puts medicine directly into her lungs to help her breathe. The IV gives the fluids and electrolytes and vitamins she needs desperately to help her combat her respiratory infection. We also decided to change her name to Marilyn. The more time we spent with her last night the more she became Marilyn, just so stunning and kind inside and out!
I will be honest I am worried about Al and Rose. They are SO skinny and with how cold it is and how compromised they are its worrisome. This is also why it is so important we get these horses out of there. This weather, their conditions, it is SO BAD. They dont deserve any of this it is sickening.
So today lets do some good for them. Lets show them. Lets rally behind them. Lets be their warriors and get them out of there and into a safe place!
The status of our current fundraisers are as follows:
The Sticker Boys: $7184 left to raise
Sofia, the thoroughbred with the horrible leg injury: $4359 left to raise
Elaina and Evander the two draft horses: $6042 left to raise
This doesnt count all of the direct ship horses from yesterday that they added into the pen that they are going to ship anytime which is making me also sick to my stomach. Below are some of their faces--- THEY NEED US!
