Geezus yesterday was. ALOT. It has just been a lot since I got here. I can only imagine what it is like watching non stop on the stories and through the reels. I know it has GOT to be a lot for all of you as well.
On top of the auction going on yesterday, two of my guys back home got in a bad car accident. Their truck was totaled and they had to go to the hospital. THANK GOD they are alright. I am glad Brian was at the scene also to help everyone and be there and make sure 911 was called. Terrifying and one of my guys son was with him. It could have been so much worse.
THEN, during the auction an insane storm hit. I mean INSANE. As in crazy winds, rain, hail, thunder, lightning, it was bad. Our neighbor to our RST property' house was destroyed by a tornado that touched down during the storm. Like it literally went over our property and dropped down ON their house. This is the neighbor who out of the kindness of his heart gives us our hay and grain at cost to help the rescue. Jen and her family who run the RSY property immeditately went to their home to help them with whatever they could do. Its devistating and so sad and thank God no one was hurt. Their animals, our animals, are all okay but their barn and home are gone. Its so sad!
It has been A LOT. This has been one of the hardest auction weekends for me mentally.
So far we have managed to bid on and rescue 20 horses and donkeys. THAT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. This does not count the 14 belgian work horses, 3 babies and 6 horses. Today is our last day to make a difference in the lives of the horses who were bought BY the Kill Pen to ship and trade. TODAY is the last day to literally change the trajectory of where they go.
My goal is 10. 10 horses today but we will see what happens when we get there. I always try to get there and walk around, gather my thoughts, see who is begging for help. Who needs help. Who shouldnt be on the semi truck for 17 hours down into Mexico. There is usually another truck load of horses that have been dropped off that were sold directly to the kill pen for Mexico. I always try to see them. To make sure I give them a chance to be seen and helped. Its a lot. It alwyas is a lot and I know you feel the weight right along with me. I am grateful to have the support that I do both from YOU ALL, and the other rescues who attend and are fighting the fight, both online and in person.
IT IS SO HARD! There are horses who are going to ship that I know need to be put down. You can see that their legs are blown out, they have bad knees, their necks are fractured, their hind ends are shot from EPM and they cant walk straight. Do I rescue them and have them taken to the vet or do I focus on the horses who have so much life to live. Its a horrible HARD decision I have to weigh and make. The reality is there just arent enought donations RIGHT NOW to do right by all of them. Maybe there is? It's always worth a shot.
So maybe today I wont say that these are the lucky horses we are focusing on. Maybe today we will just do as much good as we can and focus on ALL of them. They ALL need us. I will go live. I will keep everyone posted when I get there. I will make reels. I will make posts. I will share pictures and videos and will just do the best that I can to change the path their lives are on. Its why I am here. It is why WE show up. It is why YOU stand beside me, and them.
Lets give it one final push to save as many as we can. We may not be able to stop the truck from leaving this eveing, BUT we can stop them from being on it.
HOGAN AND DEBBIE UPDATE
We also are STILL fundraising for Hogan and Debbie, two of the 6 horses we saved from shipping on Friday. I know everyones priorities shifted, rightfully so, but we have GOT to get the fundraised for and safe. We have too. We saved them from shipping but that also comes with our due diligence to do the right thing by them medically, quarantine, training, etc. I will always do right by them to set them trully up for successs. ALWAYS. I want what is best for them in every aspect of that and that comes with a cost but also standards that I know you want us to have for their level of care and what we want for them. These are our 'kids', our responcibility, souls we are responcible for making sure we do right by.
Hogan: $2860 left to raise
Debbie: $4000 left to raise : Debbie is the paint pony who was save 6 that let me pet her during the live. She was my 'if' we are allowed one more we have her number down. We were allowed one more.
