Adopting a horse or donkey from us isn’t just bringing home a companion—it’s giving them a second chance at life. When you adopt, you’re not only gaining a healthy, well-assessed partner, but you’re also opening up a space for us to save another at-risk horse or donkey who desperately needs a lifeline. Your adoption truly saves two lives—the one you take home, and the one who gets the chance to come here next.
Adoption Process
Many of our adoptable horses and donkeys are currently either in training, in quarantine, out on pasture or being assessed. We have a few select horses and young prospects posted, however, we truly feel that the best fit is in being honest with WHAT is best for you, not what the horse or donkey looks like. This is why we have a strict adoption questionnaire, posted below, that is our STEP 1 in the adoption process that we have all of our prospective homes fill out before ever meeting the available horses and donkeys.
Who you are looking for may not be posted as a featured available horse or donkey, but that doesn't mean we do not have the right fit amongst our horses being assessed or in our training/riding program. This is another reason WHY the questionnaire is so important.
Once you do have an appointment and you fall in love with one of our adoptable amazing residents, you will then fill out the adoption application to start the process of giving the most amazing second chance to the lucky fit.

THERAPY & COMPANION HORSES
These are horses that we feel due to either injury, age, ability, or a combination of all three, should not be ridden any longer. They are healthy, happy and simply just need a family to spoil and love them in the way that they deserve.

RIDING HORSES
To ensure the best match between horse and rider, we prioritize suitability over impulse decisions. Please complete and submit the adoption questionnaire below so we can help pair you with the right horse for your experience level and goals.
We take the placement of our horses and donkeys very serious. The one thing we do not stand for or want, is window shopping. The quickest way to derail a healthy and compatible relationship between human and animal is to simply purchase/adopt based on looks and appearance.
We believe that taking the time to match you with the right fit, regardless of color or 'prettiness', is setting both the prospective owner up for success, and the horse or donkey.
We have created this questionnaire to help guide us in seeing who we might have available as a prospective fit, before we set the initial appointment. Once you have submitted the questionnaire you will get an email response. Please take a moment to read over the email and then reach out via phone with any questions you might have!
All Seated in a Barn has a strict no resale/first right of refusal policy on our adopted horses and a no breeding policy for mares. We always have animals coming into and out of our facility that are up for adoption. If you are interested in learning about who we have, or even what you are looking for that we can help you find, please fill out the form below with as much information as you can, and we will get back to you as soon as we can regarding who we have available that could possibly be a good fit!
VERY IMPORTANT!! Due to having had issues in the past with adoptions not falling through, or individuals wanting a horse, and then never following through on them, we now are on a first come first serve basis. This means that, if someone shows up and it is a good fit for BOTH the horse AND the family/person, and they have the application, photos of where the horse/donkey will be living, and the amount of the adoption fee, we move forward with the adoption.
We will hold a horse for a 30% refundable deposit which can be applied to the adoption fee if the adoption moves forward. This is not mandatory BUT will hold the horse for you until you are able to meet them in person to see if it is a good fit. Again, NOT mandatory but is encouraged if you are seriously interested in the horse. Please understand that we do our best. We ALWAYS have amazing horses and donkeys coming in and we are just trying to do right by the animal.
All potential adopters & foster homes MUST first fill out our Adoption Questionnaire. Once that has been received we will respond if we feel we might have a potential fit. Once the appointment is made, the potential adopter MUST fill out our Adoption/Foster Application and submit and photos of the facility/home where the animal will be kept.
Applications MUST be filled out completely for consideration.
Photos may be submitted via email, mail, text message or brought with the potential adopter.
Adopters will be notified by email, mail, or phone when their Adoption/Foster Application has been processed. If you have not heard back from us within 5 business days of ALL information being submitted, please email us at: adopt@allseatedinabarn.com
Choosing the right animal for you and your family is a big decision, All Seated in a Barn understand this. We will help guide adopters and suggest animals that we believe will be an asset to you, your family, and the purpose you intend to use the horse for.
Adoptions are done on a first come, first serve basis. Only adopters with an Approved Application will be considered.
Each animal has an adoption fee associated with them.
Each Adopter must sign an Adoption Agreement and follow the policies stated in the Adoption Agreement. The Adoption Agreement is designed to protect the animal and ensure that they do not end up in another unsafe situation.
After adopting, the adopter has 30 days to return the horse if they feel it is not the right fit.
This is NOT a trial period and no refunds will be given.
Please note, as a rescue we can not guarantee any specific training level, behavior, or temperament for our horses. Each horse comes with their own past experiences, and their behavior may change based on handling, environment and care. They are living, thinking, souls who evolve based on their situation and based on the owners interactions with them.
Descriptions provided by our team are based on our staff, volunteers, farrier and vets observations and interactions with them while they are in our care. For this reason, we allow our Adoptors to return the horse within 30 days if they determine it is not a good fit, but we do not provide refunds. We will however work with our Approved Adoptors on finding a better fit should this be the case.
Animals adopted from All Seated in a Barn MAY NOT under any circumstances be SOLD or GIVEN AWAY without first contacting ASIAB per the first right of refusal listed in the adoption agreement.
Selling/Giving Away Adopted animals violates the Adoption Agreement and violators will be prosecuted.
Even though we do not allow Adopters to sell Adopted animals, we will however agree to transfer adoptions, under the following circumstances:
The New Adopter MUST fully complete our adoption agreement. Once the adoption agreement has been submitted, it must be approved.
Any animal adopted from All Seated in a Barn may not be bred intentionally for any reason.
We understand that horses do not live forever and that they die from natural causes and old age. We also understand that if a horse is suffering it needs to be humanely euthanized. Please make sure that you inform All Seated in a Barn if your Adopted animal has died or has been euthanized, so that they can update the horse's file appropriately. If possible, please have your veterinarian send a statement or letter to our offices verifying the horse's death or euthanasia.
