Dutch Harness Horse
Edward isn’t just another senior horse in our care — he’s living history.
He was one of the very first Dutch Harness Horses ever imported into the United States back in 2000. Before most people even knew what this breed was, Edward was already here, already making his mark. He carried that powerful trot, that unmistakable presence, and that old-world elegance everywhere he went.
For years, he worked as a carriage horse in an Amish community — loyal, consistent, and dependable every single day. He gave everything he had. Until he couldn’t anymore.
When he aged out of usefulness, he was cast aside. Dumped at a small Midwest auction. Bought cheap. Sold for slaughter. A literal legend, moments away from being erased.
That’s how he came to us.
Edward is retired with us because he earned it. Because a horse with his history and his heart deserves to spend the rest of his life safe, respected, and loved. He now lives his days surrounded by friends, grazing in big open pastures, carrying the quiet dignity of a horse who has finally been given what he always deserved.
Sponsoring Edward means preserving a legacy — giving a once-forgotten icon the kind of ending every horse should have. It means standing beside a horse who spent decades serving humans, and finally giving him a life where humans serve him.
Let him live out his story with the honor he’s earned!
A monthly sponsorship of $300 covers Edward’s feed, farrier, supplements, and day-to-day care — and as a thank you, we make it deeply personal:
