Nancy’s story is one so many people never see — the pipeline that waits for horses the moment they stop being profitable.
She started her life on the track as a trotter, bred and trained for speed, precision, and performance. Like countless others, she ran because she was asked to. Until she couldn’t. Whether she was injured or simply not fast enough, the moment she fell short of expectation, her value shifted — and the Amish stepped in.
Nancy became a personal carriage horse, the kind used to carry families to church, haul errands, and work long, quiet miles on country roads. She did everything asked of her. She showed up every day. She carried the weight of people’s lives without complaint.
But once she aged out or slowed down — once she wasn’t useful anymore — she was discarded.
Thrown into the auction system. Sold for whatever small amount someone could get for her. Bought cheap. Sent into the direct ship pen, where her story should have ended with a slaughter tag instead of a second chance.
That’s where we found her.
That’s where everything changed.
Today, Nancy is retired with us because she deserves a life defined by care, not labor. She moves with that same elegance Saddlebreds are known for, but now she lives with freedom, space, safety, and friends. The kind of life she never had the chance to experience before.
